Indiegogo LIVE Day 1.

Hello,

Today is the first day of our campaign on Indiegogo! This campaign is raising money for Community Health Clubs in Malawi! These clubs will be giving training on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. Before you read any further, this campaign does not mean you have to donate - it's a crowdsource funding campaign and your referrals and excitement are just as valuable, as they will drive people to the website who will donate! Of course you can always donate too, but that is not the ONLY way to be involved in a big way!  We will talk more about how to do this...But first here are the goals of the project.
  • Increase local knowledge of water, sanitation, and hygiene. Educating members that many illnesses can be eliminated through simple means, such as hand washing or covering food. By the end of the first year our goal is to cut diarrhea incidence in a THIRD. In Chilombo village, Malawi, less than 3% of the population know how to treat diarrhea properly. Yet it is frequent, and even deadly.
  • Encourage behavior change in the homes of members, reducing the incidence of illness and especially water borne disease through implementation of learning due to increased knowledge. By the end of the first year, our goal is that over 50% will be using soap after going to the toilet. In Mgwayi village, Malawi, 89% reported not using a hand washing station after going to the toilet.  Changing this behavior alone would radically improve health, school attendance, and decrease infant mortality.
  • Transform the surrounding community because of increased knowledge and behavior change of Community Health Club members. By the end of the first year, our goal is that 50% of the community will know how to make an oral rehydration solution for diarrhea treatment.Community Health Club members will become advocates in their families, and villages. They will share their knowledge and demonstrate their behavior change.
