Over 2,000 children.
Average walk for water is 2-3km.
Imagine carrying water in a bucket weighing 30-40 lbs like this every day. At my gym we do this sometimes, but never for that far! And never in the blazing heat of the mid day sun, and never when I am sick, or hungry, and never before school.
Chilombo got a new well a few months back, they are getting another one soon, and after that another one. Distances for water will shrink, school attendance will increase, and illness will fall.
Water, is just the beginning for this community. As we begin an effort to work with families on installing new roofs on their homes - the traditional thatch, does not last long and is home to vermin, insects, and leaks. The new roof will be made of timber and metal, providing leak proof and long lasting shelter. Each family will work side by side with a team of volunteers, and will also provide some of the materials themselves.
Things are looking up for Chilombo.
The second well only needs a little more funding, from partners like you! Check out the link - Chilombo Well No.2
